Shredding of bales of straw and hay
Straw and hay bales are shredded by different machines depending on the task in terms of productivity and bale size.
The productivity of the machine depends on the percentage of moisture of the raw material, the higher the moisture, the lower the productivity. The density of the package, which is determined by the baler, is also of great importance. The final fraction after grinding is a factor affecting the final performance of the machine.
Hay and straw are crushed for use as bedding for animals and poultry, as well as for animal feed. The fraction of such grinding is within 30-60 mm. Before grinding, it is necessary to remove the twine from the bales.
Different straw in bales is used for the production of pellets and fuel briquettes. In this case, a grinding fraction of up to 4 mm is required. Bale shredders do not give such a fraction. Such a fraction can be obtained by installing an autonomous hammer crusher with a capacity of more than 2 tons. Professional hammer crushers of this performance are equipped with a cyclone with a fan and an aspiration system.
The second option for obtaining a fine fraction is to install a hammer crusher on the straw chopper (on the chopper rotor shaft). Under such a scheme, we will receive within 2-3.5 tons of finished products per hour.
The enterprise “Zerma-Ukraine” manufactures 2 types of straw shredders. The first is a shredder with a working drum diameter of 2400 mm and a height of 1370 mm. It can work both from the tractor’s power take-off shaft and from an electric motor with a power of 75 kW to 110 kW (stationary version).
The productivity of such a shredder is within 12-22 t/hour. It is simple and economical to use and maintain. Agricultural company “Shabo” grinds grape vines for the steam boilers of the brandy plant on such a device.
The second type is a straw chopper for small square bales or pre-split large bales. The diameter of the rotating drum is 750 mm and the height is 900 mm, the engine power is 11 kW, and the productivity is from 2 to 3 t/h. A 13-16 liter gasoline engine can be installed on such a shredder. It is also possible to additionally install a crusher and obtain a fraction of <4 mm.
